February Update!

First Visitation Day

Becky went to visit the children on their first visitation day.  She emailed, "They did their interviews very well and I am glad to report to you that no one was pushed back to their previous classes."  Becky brought treats for the children and they enjoyed the afternoon together.

The children greeted her upon her arrival.
How sweet is this?

Second Visitation Day

Emma went to visit the children on the second visitation day.  They were of course so happy to see him!  Emma wrote about the visit:

"The children are really doing well and right at this point of the term they are preparing for the first elections of the school prefects (highest school honor in Uganda) and a number of them have put in their applications to contest as pupil heads in the school.  They are very happy, clean and love the school.  This is really good and it will help them to speak good English (Uganda's national language).  Now they told me that they are to try very hard to campaign and week for the votes from their fellow friends."

Friday applied for the food organizer
Michael applied for head boy

A Trip to the Zoo and Museum

An anonymous donor sponsored a trip for the children to go to the zoo and a museum.  Doctor Mufumba wrote to us about the trip.  Thank you!

"The children have a lot to tell about the museum and the zoo.  They have seen things like the early man, skeletons of birds and animals, casted snakes, the very first car in Uganda, and different attires for different tribes (including the Karamojong).  Right now we are enjoying the cool breeze from the lake as we get lunch and then we shall be looking at different wildlife."

Happy Graduation Auntie Becky!

Becky, the new matron, graduated from Makarere University with a degree in IT this month!  Congratulations Becky!

Luke and Becky

"It was really a wonderful day for me and the entire PFP family.  They really welcomed me back with cheers and also requested to take photos in my gown as a sign of giving them my blessings.  They promised to work hard to achieve what I have achieved today and even much more.  I have to assure you, these kids have got potential to graduate some day to come, they really got so inspired when they saw me in my gown today.  Believe me we will have very many degrees, Masters and even Doctorates in this home."
--Becky

The children posed in Becky's cap and gown.  Becky requested that we keep these photos safe and print and give them to each child once they graduate from university.  What a great and fun idea!

Career Workshop

The career workshop came to an end as the children have returned to school.  Thank you Doctor Mufumba for all of your hard work in executing the workshop!

"The children were so happy to learn of different career opportunities.  At the end of the final lesson the following expressed the desire to become specialists:

Tikol wants to become a dentist
Agnes Longok wants to become an anesthesiologist
Agnes Lotuke wants to become an orthopedic officer
Allan wants to become an opthalmic clinical officer
Kure Bosco wants to become a dental officer

Thank you for this program!"

--Doctor Mufumba

A NEW school!

The children are now attending Victoria Junior School, a private boarding school that "offers high quality and comprehensive education to the pupils."  It is based in Namutumba Town in the Eastern part of Uganda and is one of the best primary schools in all of Uganda.  The children are especially excited for the sports and music programs that the school offers.

Backpacks

Every year the August delegation brings each child a backpack from his or her sponsor or from a generous donor.  This year we will ask each sponsor to fill the backpack with the following list of items:
  • Two outfits
  • Underwear
  • Socks
  • Shoes
  • Bathing suit
  • Goggles
  • 1 book
  • 1 toy/game/piece of jewelry (not to exceed $20 and no electronics, please)
The reason we are providing guidelines this year is because in the past some children have received more than others.  Let us know if you have any questions or concerns and as always thank you so much for doing something a little extra for the children!
