Karamojong Day

Most of our children are from the Karamojong tribe, a tribe that is discriminated against in Uganda. PFP teaches the children to celebrate their heritage and to be proud of who they are. On May 12th the kids celebrate Karamojong day complete with traditional dress and face painting, dance lessons, a singalong, and a language class taught by two of the older boys, Tikol and Angella! Mark also taught everyone about the Karamojong history.

Emma wrote about the day: "This holiday was really unique. Today was really fantastic as the children were trying to recall their culture by singing, dancing, and demonstrating the most popular economic activity for the Karamojong tribe, which is cattle keeping. I was amused to hear Longoli Grace trying to sing in her mother tongue as well as Lomilo, Natulei Harriet, and Aggan Moses all giving their best."

New Pets!

Welcome to the family Garfield and Odie! Odie will be a future guard dog and Garfield will keep our property rodent-free. It is rare to have pets in Uganda and the children are very excited about it. A group of them made Odie a cardboard "dog house" complete with a door, blanket, and food dish. So sweet. :)

Masese

The children went on a day trip to the slums, Masese, to visit some of their relatives. This is a PFP effort aimed at maintaining family and cultural ties.

May Update!

New Home

If you didn't already know, we now have two homes in Uganda thanks to our many generous supporters! Hope Home, the home that we've owned for over a year, will remain the boy's home. The girls will be moving to our lovely new home, Peace Home. This expansion will allow us to bring in 27 more children over the course of the next year!

Hope Home

Kate, our current volunteer, painted the gate of the boy's home, Hope Home. It looks beautiful and the children love it!

Peace Home

The plumbing and septic work is complete and the water tank is in place! We now have two functioning bathrooms with a shower and sink and interior work has begun. The girls will be able to move into their new home shortly!

Sponsored Outing

Thanks to so many generous supporters of PFP the children were able to go on a very special outing! The children had a fantastic time! They went on a boat ride, played safari miniature golf, rode a trailer ride behind a four-wheeler around the village and river, and had a picnic lunch! The children want all of you to know that they approved of their first peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. ;)

Here's what director Brandi had to say about the trip:

"It was a great time! The kids were so well behaved and grateful. We really do have great kids and it is always most evident on outings or when new people are meeting them and giving positive comments. We should be very proud of them!"

March Update!

Around the World Raffle Winner

In case you didn't receive the email we wanted to announce on the blog that ticket #0624, Alice R. of Corvallis, OR won the raffle! She and her husband spend most of their travel money on annual humanitarian trips to Ukraine where they have their own non-profit organization, so this is a special treat for them! Alice wrote to us, "...we are thrilled to imagine that we could go to Rome or Rio or Athens or Copenhagen or Sydney or Johannesburg! Thanks to this gift, our only limitation is our imagination." Congrats!

Thank you to EVERYONE who participated in the raffle this year! We sold all 1,250 tickets, which made it possible for us to purchase a new home(!) for the girls and to bring in 27 more children by the end of next year. We are so grateful and excited to expand our family!

New Home!

Here is a picture of the new girls home! The boys will remain at the home we purchased a year ago. We are thrilled about the expansion and know that it's only possible because of your support.

New Sponsors Needed

Lomilo and his sponsor Patricia
Now that we have the space we plan to bring 27 more needy children into the Peace for Paul program. We feel so blessed to be able to do so. Our plan is to bring nine children into the home by July. Profiles of these children will be up shortly. We would like to start identifying sponsors so that once we bring the children in your sponsorship is already established. If you or someone you know would like to sponsor a child please contact Heidi at heidi@peaceforpaulfoundation.org. Thank you!
